How To Increase Jump In Basketball – 5 Tips To Help Improve Your Vertical Leap   by Mohammed Jogee

It is difficult to think of a sport that requires jumping higher as a major factor than basketball. A time comes where you have to find other ways within yourself to increase velocity in your jumping.

1) PLYOMETRICS FOR BASKETBALL

Plyometrics and basketball is the perfect combination to solve how to increase your jump in basketball. Plyometrics is the best exercise program for an athlete who’s desire is to increase his/hers vertical jump. Plyometrics improves circulation,stimulates nerve cells,toughens tissues,encourages rapid muscle tone and improves an athletes ability to increase jump in a short amount of time.
Plyometrics help concentrate power,strength and control in the areas of the body that helps enhance muscular tone and power and in the areas of the body that increases the agility to jump.
These exercises are not easy and are not suitable for everyone. This program should only be used if you are willing to push yourself hard. If not done properly it could lead to injury so it it is advised to have a trainer on hand to guide you through the process safely.

2) JUMP!JUMP!

There are many programs out there that outline exercises on how to increase jump in basketball but nothing can’t beat the classic and simple exercises.
Using a 2ft bench you can jump back and forth to improve jumping. Best to start slowly as over time you will be able to hop back and forth in a smooth rhythm.
Add this to your strength and rope exercises and you will be on the way up!

3) BUILD YOUR JUMPING

To increase your agility to jump higher, It is important to increase your leg strength and stamina. This can be done by doing a series of jumping drills.
Start by jumping with both feet as high as you can and keep your hands above your head rotating to assist in your jumping. As soon as your feet touch the ground jump straight back up, repeat this 25 times. Follow this by jumping off your right foot 25 times and then jumping off your left foot 25 times. Remember to keep hands up and jump straight back as soon as you land.
Follow this by jumping and bringing your knees as close to your chest as you can 25 times. For this you can keep your hands down to maintain stability but carry on to jump quickly.
Follow this by kicking your heels into you rear end 25 times. Finally perform 25 Jerry Wests, To perform this jump bend forward from waist extending arms at a 45 degree angle and try and touch your toes with your finger tips.

4) FLEXIBILITY

Flexibility is one of the most overlooked factors when it comes to increase jump in basketball. Leaping ability is based on the elasticity of your muscles and tendon.
Extreme fexibility enhances jumping ability when coupled with proper training. Employing stretching and flexibilty drills before training to enhance jumping performance.
Basic hamstring and quadricep exercise can be performed either seated or standing up which takes a matter of minutes. Basketball accessories are available for use when performing a stringent warm up routine for flexibility. Be sure to take advantage of this and increase flexibility and your vertical jump.

5) TRICKING YOUR MUSCLES TO MAKE YOU JUMP HIGHER

Only 2 things can keep you grounded on earth; gravity resistance and our own muscles. There is very little to avoid the gravity pull but your muscles don’t need to know that. New training accessories have been developed which can help you trick your muscles against gravity to help you jump higher.
